Vice Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama asks the athletes incorporated in the contingent of 2013 Jakarta National Student Games (Popnas) to show their best performance in the competition, which falls on September 14-20. Basuki also believes that they will get the overall champion in such competition.
“You are the ones chosen. I asked you must show the best performance to achieve the overall championship,” said Basuki when he gave a briefing and confirmed Jakarta contingents towards the implementation of 2013 Popnas, in Great Hall, Monday (9/9).
When he was in school, he admitted, a number of colleagues have a good achievement, especially sports sector. “A long time ago, Kung Fu martial art was not yet listed in the sports category. I also had joined the taekwondo, but my kick is not good at that time. So I decided to join the motocross sport, but my mom didn’t give permission. I just want to swim in athlete places, because many crocodiles in the river,” he exclaimed and greeted laughter by the athletes.
Basuki advised the athletes to continue practicing diligently in order to achieve the best performance on the implementation of the upcoming Popnas. “Hopefully, our athletes are able to bring Jakarta won as the overall championship,” he expected.
In addition, those athletes should be confident in the competition of the upcoming popnas.
“Just keep honing your skills and remember the key to success in a bid to achieve the best performance, do not lose it mentally in the competition. If you’ve lost mentally first, we will not win a medal,” he pleaded.
Besides Popnas, Basuki also hopes Jakarta athletes could get achievements in a number of international sporting events.
As reported earlier, Jakarta was trusted to be the host in the event of 2013 Popnas on September 14-20. “This year, our target is the overall champion. Previous year we won in second position in Pekanbaru,” said Head of Jakarta Sport and Youth Department, Ratiyono.
He added, 330 athletes are ready to compete in 16 sports which will be contested in such events. “We are ready to organize the event. All venues are ready,” finished Ratiyono.
