To hold the 2013 Jakarta Abang None (Abnon) Pageant, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department spent a budget worth for Rp 1.5 billion. Compared to the previous years, this year’s Abnon will be different because it will be held in an open field at Monas area.
Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department, Arie Budhiman, said that aside from utilizing the City Budget (APBD), the event is also supported by various regional companies as well as private companies in Jakarta. Whereas, the budget worth for Rp 1.5 billion is spent to fund the whole selection process, from municipal level to provincial level.
“The money from the city budget is used to fund the whole Abnon Pageant process, starting from conducting ranges of tests, such as psychological test and drug test, quarantine, until judging,” he stated, Tuesday (7/2).
According to Budhiman, some stakeholders that took part in sponsoring the event are PT Jakarta Monorail and PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol. “The budget is also used for other activities. Aside from budget taken from the city budget, there are also sponsors’ supports for prizes,” he explained.
The final night of the 2013 Abnon Pageant will have the theme of ‘Abang None in Gambir Folk’s Party’ which will be held on Wednesday (7/3) night, in an open area. Usually, the event was held indoor.
“We had held Abnon Pageant final night outdoor at Fatahillah Park and the yard of Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) Kemayoran. But in Monas, this is the first time. The concept also looks good because it opens more access to the public (to see it),” uttered Budhiman.
The 2013 Abnon Pageant is participated by 1,854 candidates from five municipals and a regency. The number is an increase by 21.06 percent compared to the previous year of 1,467 candidates. The selection process has been conducted on both municipals and provincial level from June 27-30. As many as 18 pairs of finalists are entitled to participate in the Final Night.
On that night, an event of Gambir Market Folk’s Party will also be held starting from 1-6 PM. The event is opened for public. There, visitors could enjoy various Betawi art performances as well as culinary.
