Bajaj conversion program from oil fuel to gas fuel (BBG) keeps being conducted by Jakarta Provincial Government. Until the upcoming February 2014, Jakarta Transportation Department targeted for 3,900 bajajs to be converted.
Head of Public Transport Section for Jakarta Transportation Department, Edi Syufa’at said two qualified operators for rejuvenation program are PT Matahari Trans Utama (3,500 units of bajaj) and Bajaj Sehati Cooperative (400 units of bajaj).
According to Syufa`at, in order to finish the conversion program, he will keep monitoring the revitalization process conducted by the two operators. "The revitalization conducted by PT Matahari Trans Utama has now finished periodical test on 141 units of bajajs. Meanwhile, Koperasi Najaj Sehati has finished the revitalization of 3 units of bajaj," informed Syufa`at, Thursday (6/6).
Based on the data of Jakarta Transportation Department, since 2006 there are 14,343 old bajajs. Until 2011, 2,755 out of them were already rejuvenated.
Rojak, (42), one of bajaj entrepreneurs which previously has 35 old bajajs acknowledged has switched to using gas-fueled bajaj. “Besides, I already have 48 units of gas-fueled bajaj,” he told.
He continued, gas-fueled bajaj is very profitable and eco-friendly. “Moreover the passenger prefer to ride gas-fueled bajaj than old bajaj,” he expressed.
This will affect the revenue he received from his bajaj drivers. "Even though the amount of revenue obligated to be handed over for red bajaj is 40 thousand and blue bajaj 120 thousand, blue bajajs are the bajaj most likely able to achieve that target," inished Rojak.
