The ranks of Jakarta Transportation Department requested Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo to add more personnel in order to help them in tackling traffic congestion in the capital city. Moreover the amount of Transportation Department personnel is only 600, and considered unoptimal to handle congestion in the field.
Jakarta Transportation Department, Udar Pristono said at this time he only has 600 personnel in the field in his unit. With low personnel, he considered them still difficult to manage traffic flow in each area.
“Those personnel is impossible to manage traffic all over Jakarta. So I requested the governor to add 300 personnel, and now only got 180 personnel,” he stated, Sunday (3/17).
According to him, Jokowi has given disposition to transfer 3,000 personnel of Satpol PP to Transportation Department. “The governor has given disposition to transfer 3,000 personnel of Satpol PP gradually,” he expressed.
Pristono explained, the process of transfer system must go through a selection process in advance, either administration or physical. “The transfer system is done gradually, every single term must be 200 people, because their health must be checked and tested. We want a tall officer in the field,” he told.
Yet he asked Satpol PP personnel should be part of the Transportation Department, considering the main tasks and functions between the Transportation Department and Satpol PP is different. Moreover, Transportation Department also needs personnel to keep the lanes of Transjakarta bus, on-street parking, etc.
“There is issue that it is only assistance form, but it can’t. This is due to the main tasks and functions between the two sides are different, where Satpol PP prohibited to follow up the violations of bajaj, parking lot, so they must be moved. We just change the priority a bit. Due to overcome congestion needs more personnel to keep the Transjakarta bus lane and parking lot. So I ask for the help in accordance with the the governor’s instruction,” he finished.
