The installation of 24-hour electricity in Seribu Island is not only supporting residents’ daily activities, but also family planning (KB) program as well. This is proven that since January until June 2012, birth rate in Seribu Island only reaches 39 children. This amount decreases compared to the same period in 2011 which reached 42 children.
“With electricity, the residents who were previously resting are now working and doing activities. This is a measured variable. Two children is better,” stated Chairwoman of Jakarta TP PKK, Sri Hartati Fauzi Bowo, when visiting RW 04 Pulaukelapa, Seribuutara Island, Tuesday (6/12).
Even, she also appreciates many locals who have participated on KB program. She hopes that with KB and 24-hour electricity, birth rate in Seribu Island can be decreased more.
Head of Seribu Island Health Sub-Department, Adji Kurnianto, told that average birth rate in Seribu island reaches 5-10 children per month. As for the amount of children born in 2011, it reached 112 children.
Meanwhile, Head Sub-Section of Seribu Island KB Service, Nurdin Amin, said that PKK role is useful in running KB program in Seribu Island because PKK cadres have guided and joined residents to participate on KB program. “We just facilitate KB program, while PKK brings residents to participate on government program about KB,” he uttered.
According to him, since the Governor Regulation No. 162/2010 about Free KB Service issued, KB enthusiasts are increasing significantly in Seribu Island. Previously, the amount of acceptor in Kelapa Island was only 100 acceptors, but now it increases to 200 acceptors.
“Our target is young generations who got married at the age between 20-35 years due to their reproduction is the most fertile. In general, we give free KB service with pills, injections, implants, male surgery (tubectomy), and female surgery (vasectomy),” told Nurdin.
However, due to lack of medics and facilities, his personnel still found difficulties in conducting tubectomy and vasectomy surgeries in the Seribu Island community health center (puskesmas). “If there is patient to be operated, we have to bring the patient to Satya Negara and Mulya Sari hospitals, North Jakarta, which specially handling female surgery and Syifa Clinic in Koja Sub-District for male surgery,” explained Nurdin.
