Jakarta Provincial Government has ascertained that the land which State Junior High School (SMPN) 289 stands in Cilincing, North Jakarta, is owned by the state. However, the building is currently cannot be used due to the fact that the access road is being blocked by people who claimed ownership of the land, and demanding compensation for it being used as a school.
“The land is ours, but other party blocked it off and claimed it to be theirs,” stated Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Monday (7/8).
The number one person in the capital city promised that he will personally come to the school and check it to find out the real reason of the road being blocked. “I will personally check it on Wednesday,” he told.
The only access road to the school, which building just finished constructed in 2012, is through a market alley that is being closed by the local RW chief. The access road was used by construction workers during the construction process. But since the building construction is finished, a henchman is there guarding the road. No one dares to come in without the permission of the henchman.
Rumors are flying around regarding the reason to why the road is blocked. The action has something to do with the land itself and the money’s worth.
Head of Jakarta Education Department, Taufik Yudi Mulyanto, said that despite the fact that the building cannot be utilized just yet, teaching and learning activities of the school are not halted. The 192 students of the school are being accommodated at State Elementary School (SDN) 04 Sukapura. “The school was built based on the locals’ requests,” he explained.
According to Mulyanto, Jakarta Education Department keeps trying to persuade the people who blocked the road by holding dialogues. “We are still discussing it,” he finished.
