The difficulty in relocating the citizens who live on the bank of Pluit Dam, North Jakarta, is suspected to have been caused by land commercialization, in which some illegal developers are renting the land to the citizens. Even so, Jakarta Provincial Government will not back down in their attempt to normalize the biggest dam in the capital city.
Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) suspected the developers are trying to occupy the state-owned land. Because of that, city government is determined to find and eliminate those illegal developers. “There is commercialization there, which I’ve been saying since then that there are illegal developers who want to occupy state land. This is what must be eliminated,” stated Jokowi, Wednesday (5/15).
According to Jokowi, most of the citizens who live on the bank of Pluit Dam are renting the land from developers. The citizens themselves have agreed to be relocated. “The ones making a fuss here are the developers,” he said.
Jokowi admitted that he already has the names of the developers ruling Pluit Dam’s land. However, he is reluctant to disclose those names to the public. Each developer has at least 20 rented houses. “We have the data in our hands. But, we do not want to disclose it. There is a person who has 15-20 rented houses,” he told.
Jokowi stressed that he is ready to meet with Human Rights National Commission (Komnas HAM) related to this matter. This is because he has the data and knows the condition in the field. “I will meet Human Rights National Commission. Why we say this? Because we know the condition in the field,” he asserted.
Moreover Jokowi told that city government keep having dialogue with different groups of citizens every day. From the dialogues, he assessed that there are lots of interests and groups around Pluit Dam. “There are too many groups with different interests. Some are moved by other entities behind them, while others are purely moving by themselves,” he uttered.
Currently, police officers are deliberately deployed to Pluit Dam area to secure the workers who are working on the dam normalization. This is because the workers often received intimidation from the citizens, until they threatened to stop working if there is no protection. In order to protect the workers, the personnel from Mobile Brigade (Brimob) even also deployed to the location.
