The fire in ex Bengkel Cafe at Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), South Jakarta, is surmised to be caused by electricity short circuit. Moreover, at the time of the incident, there was renovation going on with welding work.
“We suspected that during the welding work, the electric current boosted which eventually caused electricity short circuit,” stated Head of Operational Section for Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department, Muchtar Zakaria, Wednesday (2/6).
According to Zakaria, his department received information about fire at SCBD around 3.20 PM. “The fire core located on the second floor of the burned building, precisely in administration room,” he told.
When the fire occurred, the workers in the building were instantly evacuated by the security officers. In order to extinguish the fire, 16 fire handling vehicles were deployed to the location. “We were having difficulties in reaching the fire incident location because of the traffic congestion. Besides, water sources were difficult to find there,” he explained.
Despite the fire occurred during heavy rain, the fire was finally overcome at 5 PM. “It is because the fire core was located inside the building, so we were having difficulties to handle it despite the rain. There is no casualty in this incident. Meanwhile, the material loss suffered reaches hundreds of million rupiah,” uttered Zakaria.
